I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but the beautiful artwork on the cover of Chasing The Butterflycaught my attention immediately.  Little did I know it that this story would be one of my favorite books I’ve read this year.

Chasing the ButterflyChasing the Butterfly by Jayme H. Mansfield

Set in a World War II France, Jayme Mansfield’s debut novel is captivating story of heartbreak and restoration. In Chasing the Butterfly, we follow the life of gifted artist Ella Moreau. Ella’s childhood is torn apart when her mother leaves the family, but art and time help her heal. From childhood to teenage years to adulthood, Ella’s journey is filled with struggle, loss, success, and love.

While I loved the story itself, one of my favorite aspects was the imagery created through Ella as an artist. The story came to life as Ella’s art gave her the confidence and outlet needed to allow herself to heal from the loss that haunted her. This truly is an incredible story of self discovery, renewal, and restoration.

This book is more than a beautiful cover and captivating story, though.  While it may be fictional, there’s truth tucked into these pages.

Chasing the Butterfly Lighthouse Publishing Carolinas Jayme Mansfield review

Some of these truths are shared from influences in Ella’s life.  Her father shared the reminder that we are to come to God with the mindset of children in order to experience all that He has for us.

Some of these truths are from Ella herself.  Despite the anger toward God and misunderstandings she has of His intentions for her life, we follow her as she heals, matures, and trusts God like never before.
